Have a question about stethoscopes?

You may find the answer in our FAQs:

The best way to ensure you are purchasing an authentic Littmann® Stethoscope is by ordering from a Littmann Authorised Dealer featured on our Littmann.com Where To Buy page.

Part of our commitment to your success as a caregiver is combatting the selling and manufacturing of counterfeit Littmann stethoscopes. Why? Because we know there’s a lot on the line. Your patients count on you to accurately monitor, assess and diagnose their ailments. Missing a vital piece of information could hamper their care and recovery. Plus, having the most accurate information about your patients will help you provide better care, but using a counterfeit Littmann stethoscope could hinder your professional growth.

Unfortunately, spotting a counterfeit isn’t always easy, and there is no way to determine the authenticity of your stethoscope without sending it to Littmann for inspection, but understanding the warning signs can help. These include:

  • A limited selection. Littmann Authorised Dealers carry a broad range of Littmann stethoscopes, including different models with a range of finishes and tubing colours.
  • Counterfeiters appear on e-commerce platforms for a short time. This makes it less likely the seller will be responsive or have reviews. It also means that there probably isn’t much information available on the seller. Littmann Authorised Dealers are knowledgeable and helpful. They’ll be responsive and help guide you to find the right Littmann stethoscope.
  • Counterfeiters rely on deals, speed and often omit markings or misspell words. If the price sounds “too good to be true,” it probably is. We take pride in creating high-performance stethoscopes with outstanding acoustics. This craftsmanship takes time and has value—finding a substantial discount should be a concern.
  • Assess the quality of your new stethoscope. Does it look okay when it arrives? Can you hear sounds (remember, earpieces should point forward toward your face)? Are any parts falling off?

In 2020, Littmann introduced a new tubing formulation designed to resist premature cracking. The new standard tubing formulation has a softer feel and a glossy finish, which some customers have perceived as feeling “tacky."

Additionally, stickiness can be a noticeable artifact out of the box that can be exacerbated by environmental factors, such as high temperature and humidity during shipping and storage before purchase, but can be easily improved by cleaning the tubing. Tacky or sticky tubing does not adversely affect the acoustic performance of the stethoscope. We recommend cleaning standard tubing with an alcohol wipe to remove any residue. Regular cleaning of the tubing will help prevent recurrence of this effect.

If the tackiness persists, please contact Customer Support Team How to contact us | Solventum

To establish if your stethoscope is inside its warranty period, check the date of sale from your purchase receipt or online purchase records and add the warranty period listed here Stethoscope warranty and repair information | Littmann® for your model to determine end of warranty date.

Should you be unable to locate the original purchase receipt/order information in your records or form your original seller, then a nominal sale date will be calculated from the manufacture date, based on stethoscope serial number. To check warranty using this method, please supply the serial number engraved on the chest piece to our Customer Support Team here: How to contact us | Solventum

Please visit our Warranty and Repairs page, then calculate the end of warranty date based on your date of purchase and model.

Download the Littmann Service Form from the Warranty and Repairs page to see outside of warranty costs for refurbishment services specific to your model.

Complete the form and send with your stethoscope for repair to the listed workshop address on the form.
