    3M™ Littmann® Electronic Stethoscope Model 3100 is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Sound, Will not last as long as you like I have now purchased 2 of these stethoscopes. The first one lasted a little over a year before I ran into problems. I was wearing it around my neck with the diaphragm end hanging in front of me. I went to lean in to exam a patient and the housing struck the patient bed safety railing and caused the battery housing to break. The break occurred at the tab that keeps the battery locked in. That basically eliminated it's use as I could not tape it closed. That was the end of the first one. After 27 months, (out of warranty) my second one started to power off during exams. I would have to push the power button multiple times just to complete a single patient exam. This continued despite replacing the battery. This time, there was never any impact issues. Given the price point of these stethoscopes, I was a little disappointed with the short lifespan. While they worked, they were fabulous. I loved the audio quality and ability to pick up subtle findings in the loud Emergency Department environment that I work in. I basically spent ~$700 for 2 stethoscopes that in total lasted less than 5 years. The value of the device is just not there when I compare that to the 12 lifespan of my previous Master Cardiology stethoscope that cost me <$200 that served me very well. Rating: Sound quality: 5 stars Durability: 2 stars Value: 1 stars

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broke within two months I work at a large teaching hospital and was hoping to use this stethoscope as an adjunct to my rounds with residents. No such luck. Initially it worked pretty well, however it soon began shutting off the minute it would touch a patient's skin. Sometimes I could get it to work by fiddling with the settings, but soon what was only a 5% event became a 80% event. I tried changing the battery, turning off the auto-shut off...no luck. Then it started just falling apart every time I put it into my bag due to the heavy diaphragm. After months of apologizing to patients and borrowing stethoscopes from my residents, I've decided to send it in for repair and purchase a 'normal' stethoscope. Reviewing this site, I can see others have had the same issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sensitve Wanted a scope with a longer tube to match my long arms but keep or improve sensitivity to decrease the impression I 'was on top of the pt." in order to hear lung and heart tones w/o bending over too much-I'm 6 foot with long arms. Sounds are +/- depending on body habitus; try to have diaphram on skin as much as possible to eliminate noise. Sounds can be a little "harsh" compared to my 30 yo Litt. Cardiology (no I,II or III) which has finer tone if the pt. is sitting still and no background noise. Had tube on older one replaced once when it started to crack and newest one is still going strong after 5 years. I plan to retire soon and hate thought of giving away old friends.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not impressed I received 3100 as a gift and was so excited to get it. It was replacing a cardiology SE that lasted 22 years. After less than a year, I have to send it back for repair. It shuts off in the middle of an exam and it falls off of your neck because the diaphragm end is so much heavier. Now I wished I asked for the master cardiology instead.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lot of artifact disturbances I have had this for few months now. Spent $$$. I hear lot of disturbances, artifacts and amplification makes it only worse. I'm disappointed by this purchase. It works no better than non electronic ones.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from wORKED WELL FOR ABVOUT i MONTH aFTER A MONTH THE DISPLAY LIT UP AND BECAME BLANK BUT THE SOUND CUES STILL WERE THERE & I WAS USED TO THEM BY NOW PULSE ALWAYS WORKED INTERMITTENTLY UNTIL DISPLAY WENT OFF AND THEN IT WAS USELESS. RECENTLY THE MICROPHONE HAS BECOME VERY INTERMITTANT ALTHOUGH THE SETTING TONES ARE STILL EASILY HEARD AND GET APPROPRIATELY LOUDER AND PITCH IS ACCURATE. aT TIMES EVEN A FINGER TAP IS TOTALLY INAUDIBLE AND AT TIMES THE PICK WORKS FINE. CYCLING THROUGH OFF AND ON SETTINGS IS OF NO HELP AS IS CYCLING THROUGH FILTER AND SOUND LEVER.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality, High in artifact. Been in the EMS doing patient care since 1987. Bought the 3100 as a present for my new career as an RN. So disappointed. Way too much artifact from handling and outside sources at all volume levels.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from LOVE ALL BUT ONE THING I love my stethoscope and have had this model for a total of 7 years. I re-bought the same model when my diaphragm fell apart after wear and tear. I have a 15% bilateral hearing loss and wear hearing aids. I have been a nurse for 5 1/2 years and work in the ICU. This stethoscope is my saving grace for auscultation of bowel, heart and lung sounds. The only reason I didn't rate it a 5 is because the soft silicone diaphragm comes off so easily and exposes the fragile diaphragm components. It is a design flaw that could be better.
